As part of its ongoing initiatives to support Bahraini craftsmanship and the overall tourism strategy, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority has announced the launch of the “Seal of Excellence for Bahraini Handicraft Products”.
Commenting on the initiative, Director of Handicrafts Directorate Shaikha Wafaa bint Saif bin Saqr Al Khalifa said: “The BTEA is committed to supporting local craftsmen in order to preserve the traditional industries of the Kingdom and to ensure their continuity to future generations. The decision was made in light of the imported products that are found in the market that are not equivalent to the quality of the Bahraini products.”
Shaikha Wafaa noted that the BTEA has announced the opening of the application process for this seal, which will act as a proof to customers who seek to purchase high-quality Bahraini products. Applications will be received at the management office in the Craft Industries Development Centre in Manama.
A committee has formed comprising of members of the BTEA, including a Bahraini artist and two craftsmen’s from the Craft Industries Development Centre. This committee will evaluate the products according to the highest standards of excellence, originality and innovation, and ensure environmental sustainability. The seal of excellence will be granted only to craftsmen who have met the requirements of the committee and have completed the necessary procedures.
